Split Bricks

There's a wall
under this peeling crust.
Not a wall
between us
but inside me,
under my stucco skin,
crunchy with age
and many coats of paint,
falling apart
like a broken home.

Let's let
the bricks split
and become sand.
We'll re-mix it
with fresh cement
and build a new wall
around us.
